I agree with you, in as much as I understand you. Our toleration of excess consumption is leading many Christians astray. We can't let anything, including our comfort, stand in the way of our cleaving to Jesus. If that means divesting ourselves of material goods in a radical way(i.e., if you have three coats, give away two), then so be it. Living simply is a great gift but an ever-present struggle.
Which must come first, though? The heart must turn toward Jesus first, as that is the only motivation and means of grace that allows anyone to set mammon aside.
