I have not read the Lewis essay mentioned in this article, but if I had to guess,he was thinking of the following type of person: a man who is a sincere Christian believing in a strict interpretation of the moral law. But he wants to fit in with a secular society that denies the miraculous. Hence he would find publicly admitting he believes such a forecast, in a word, embarrassing.
